National Assembly President Strengthens Cambodian-Thai Ties on 70th Anniversary

BANGKOK, July 11, 2024 – Ms. Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, visited Thailand today, marking over 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Her arrival was met with a warm reception from Thai leadership, underscoring the enduring friendship and cooperative spirit shared by Cambodia and Thailand.

In a meeting with Thai Parliament Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, Ms. Sudary emphasized the significance of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering people-to-people connections and advancing common interests. She highlighted the importance of multilateralism in promoting peace, stability, and social prosperity, not only for Cambodia and Thailand but also for the broader regional and international context.

"Cambodia and Thailand share similar monarchies, traditions, and customs, fostering a long-standing relationship between our peoples," Ms. Sudary stated. She expressed a commitment to enhancing cooperation and parliamentary diplomacy for a sustainable future, aiming to bolster prosperity and well-being for both nations.

During her visit, Ms. Sudary also extended gratitude to the Royal Family of Thailand and the Thai Government for their contributions to Cambodia’s socio-economic development.

Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha described Ms. Sudary's visit as historic, highlighting its potential to deepen and expand bilateral relations that have flourished for over seven decades. He reflected on the successful outcomes of his own visit to Cambodia in March, noting that the continued exchange of visits is vital for enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Both leaders acknowledged the progress made in bilateral cooperation, particularly within the legislative framework, and expressed optimism about achieving new practical results through ongoing collaboration.

This meeting represents a pivotal moment in the strengthening of Cambodian-Thai relations, with both sides committed to fostering a more cohesive and expansive partnership moving forward.
